Dear friends, this week reminded us that markets can move quickly, but careful habits—checking sources, protecting accounts, and separating facts from excitement—remain our steadiest companions.

Market context

Snapshot: 00:00 UTC on October 11. The market ended a difficult week with total capitalization near $2.81 trillion, about 4.4% lower over seven days. Bitcoin declined about 4.0% and Ethereum about 8.3%; Ether’s larger fall showed broader caution toward higher-risk cryptoassets. Bitcoin’s share of the market rose as altcoins generally lagged, a defensive pattern rather than evidence of a fresh trend. TLT weekly market recap

Big movers

Among the top 100, Starknet (STRK) gained 61.4%, Raydium (RAY) 25.6%, and Hashflow (HASH) 27.9% over the exact week. On the other side, Venice Token (VVV) fell 19.3%, Uniswap (UNI) 18.8%, and Mantle (MNT) 18.2%. These were meaningful but uneven moves during a broad risk-off week; no single confirmed catalyst explains every token’s return. TLT weekly market recap

Volume & liquidity

A verified historical series that totals *global* crypto trading volume across each exact Sunday-to-Sunday UTC window was not available from the sources reviewed, so no weekly total is reported. Do not treat a single site’s rolling 24-hour volume as a seven-day total. Market participation nevertheless appeared fragile: the selloff coincided with reported fund outflows and derivatives liquidations. CoinDesk market coverage

The coming week

Watch U.S. September CPI on Wednesday, October 14, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, followed by September PPI on Thursday, October 15, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Softer inflation could ease pressure on risk assets; firmer readings could revive it. Also watch whether Bitcoin and Ether stabilize without another liquidation surge. These are scenarios, not forecasts. BLS release schedule

When leverage shakes the market

Read the full report

The week’s most useful lesson came from a sharp market retreat: crypto can fall quickly when several sources of pressure arrive together, and the first explanation on social media is rarely the whole story. Bitcoin began the period near $86,000 and then weakened through the week; Ether fell more sharply. A weekly market recap placed the total crypto market near $2.81 trillion, down about 4.4% over seven days, with Bitcoin down 4.0% and Ethereum down 8.3%. TLT weekly market recap CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin had traded near $87,000 early in the week before slipping toward $82,000, while Ether was down about 7% at the time of its October 9 update. CoinDesk market coverage What is verified? Risk appetite weakened, U.S.-listed Bitcoin funds recorded a reported $244 million outflow on October 8, and a liquidation episode of roughly $1 billion was reported as prices fell. Those facts describe selling pressure and leveraged positions being closed; they do not prove that one headline "caused" the entire decline. CoinDesk market coverage For beginners, liquidation means an exchange closes a trader’s borrowed position after losses consume too much collateral. It can accelerate a drop because forced sales add to ordinary selling. That is why a move in leveraged derivatives can affect the cash price even for people who never use leverage. The practical takeaway is not to guess the bottom or chase a bounce. Separate three questions: what happened to price, what evidence exists about flows or liquidations, and what remains interpretation. This week supplied evidence of broad weakness and leverage stress; it did not supply a simple, certain story. Keep wallet security and position size independent of the daily drama.

CRYPTO WISDOM

Slow down before signing

A price chart is information, not an instruction. When markets become loud, your advantage is patience: verify the network, understand the transaction, and let no urgent message rush you into a permanent action.

STAY SAFE

Security check: verify every address

Before sending crypto, copy the recipient’s public address, then compare the first six and last six characters against the address shown in your wallet. A pasted address can be silently replaced by malware, and blockchain transfers generally cannot be reversed. For a new recipient, use a tiny test transaction only when the network and asset are correct.

NEW TO CRYPTO?

Your beginner step this week

Open your wallet’s receive screen and, without sharing it publicly, identify the network name and your public address. Write down why the same-looking asset can require a different address format on another network.
